Potemkin Village

Potemkin is the name of the famous and almost fabled Russian village whose facade gave a false representation of its wealth and prosperity to impress the empress whom was passing through. Conversationally it is used to describe any idea/proposal/thing that does not have nearly the substance to support its presentation.  Movie sets are the best and most innocuous example I can think of.
I've known about this story since before I was 8 but the name was either never mentioned or never stuck.  I think I'm going to weave this into my conversational arsenal despite it probably needing an explanation.
